Manchesters in Barn Hunt

Barn Hunt is a thrilling scent-based sport that taps into a dog’s natural vermin-hunting instincts. In this sport, dogs search through a series of hay bales to locate hidden live rats safely contained in aerated tubes, navigating tunnels and obstacles while using their nose, body awareness, and drive to complete the task. While it draws on traditional working roles, Barn Hunt is open to any dog or mix that can physically fit through the course tunnels — making it an excellent sport for curious and confident breeds like Manchester Terriers.

Organized by the Barn Hunt Association, the sport features progressive levels of difficulty and titling opportunities, from instinct tests to advanced championships. Though it is independent, Barn Hunt titles are recognized by major registries including the American Kennel Club (AKC), the United Kennel Club (UKC), and the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), allowing competitors to record accomplishments on official pedigrees.

To get involved, visit the Barn Hunt Association’s official site at https://www.barnhunt.com/ where you’ll find information on rules, how to register your dog, club listings, and an event calendar. Many clubs offer clinics and introductory sessions where you and your Manchester Terrier can learn the basics before entering trials.
