About the AMTC
The American Manchester Terrier Club (AMTC) is the national parent club for the Manchester Terrier in the United States, recognized by the American Kennel Club. We represent one breed with two varieties, Toy and Standard, and serve as the guardian of the breed's history and its official standard. Our members are lifelong owners, breeders, and enthusiasts united by a shared commitment to the dog often described as "neither aggressive nor shy... keenly observant, devoted yet discerning" — a compact, versatile terrier bred originally to hunt vermin and now equally at home as a devoted companion or a competitor in the ring.
The club's mission centers on encouraging responsible breeding and ownership, and on protecting the breed's future through education, health research, and mentorship. Through our Judges Education program, we help AKC judges at every level understand what makes a Manchester Terrier true to its standard. Through our Rescue program, we support dogs in need with adoption listings and financial assistance for veterinary care. And through our events, publications, and online resources, we help owners, breeders, and newcomers alike make informed decisions about the breed — whether they're seeking a show prospect, a performance partner, or simply a loyal companion. We welcome anyone who shares our love of the Manchester Terrier to get involved and become part of this community.
